Frequently asked questions
Useful answers before you begin.
These answers are general information. Your consultation is where recommendations become specific to your health and goals.
How do neuromodulators work?+
They temporarily reduce the nerve signals that make selected muscles contract. As that movement softens, the expression lines created by it can look less noticeable.
Will I still look like myself?+
That is the intention. The plan is based on your anatomy and preferred degree of movement, with conservative treatment available for people who want a subtle change.
When will I see a change, and how long will it last?+
Changes appear gradually rather than immediately. The onset and duration differ by product and person, and Dr. Chang will explain what is typical for your treatment plan.
Is there downtime?+
Most people return to ordinary activities quickly. Temporary redness, tenderness, swelling, or bruising can occur. You will receive specific aftercare guidance and a review of less common but important risks.
Who may not be a candidate?+
Treatment may need to be postponed or avoided because of pregnancy or breastfeeding, an infection near the treatment area, certain neuromuscular conditions, medications, allergies, or other health factors. Candidacy is determined during consultation.
What is the difference between dynamic and static lines?+
Dynamic lines appear with movement, such as frowning or squinting. Static lines remain visible when the face is relaxed. Neuromodulators directly address muscle-driven movement; deeper resting lines may need time, skin treatment, filler, or a combination plan.
Are Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, and Daxxify the same?+
They are related prescription neuromodulators, but their formulations, dosing units, approved uses, onset, and duration differ. Units cannot be exchanged one-for-one. Product availability and the best fit for you are confirmed during consultation.
What does “baby Botox” mean?+
It is an informal term for a conservative dosing approach, not a separate product. Smaller amounts may preserve more movement, but the right dose still depends on anatomy, muscle strength, treatment area, and the result you want.
Does treatment hurt?+
Most people describe brief pinches from a fine needle. Comfort measures can be discussed if you are sensitive or anxious about injections.
Can neuromodulators prevent wrinkles?+
Reducing repeated muscle contraction may limit how strongly certain expression lines are reinforced, but treatment cannot stop skin aging or replace sun protection and skin care. Preventive treatment is optional, not a requirement.
Can I combine a neuromodulator with filler or microneedling?+
Sometimes. Each treatment works differently, and timing depends on your priorities, skin condition, and recovery plan. Dr. Chang may stage treatments so the effect of one can be assessed before adding another.
How often can I be treated?+
Repeat treatment is based on the product, the return of movement, your goals, and your response—not an automatic calendar. Treating too frequently or using more product than needed is not the goal.
What should I plan for before a special event?+
Allow enough time for the effect to develop and for possible bruising or asymmetry to be evaluated. Because timing varies, schedule a consultation well before the event rather than immediately beforehand.
