Physician-led injectable care

Injectables

Choose the right injectable for the job—with a plan that distinguishes movement, skin quality, facial volume, and structural support rather than treating them as the same concern.

Understanding the service

What it is—and how care is shaped.

Facial aging happens in layers. The facial skeleton gradually remodels and can lose projection in selected regions; fat compartments and other soft tissues also change while skin loses collagen and elasticity. Together, these changes can reduce support, flatten contours, and contribute to descent of the overlying tissue.

“Injectables” is a category, not a single procedure. Selected dermal fillers can recreate some lost projection and soft-tissue support, but they do not replace or regrow bone. Neuromodulators reduce selected muscle activity, while Skinvive is placed within the skin to improve smoothness.

Dr. Chang begins with the change you want to see, then assesses facial movement, skin quality, proportion, medical history, and risk. The recommendation may involve one product, a staged combination, or a non-injectable alternative.

Explore the category

Three distinct injectable approaches.

01

Start with the concern

Movement, skin quality, and volume need different tools

A line that appears when you frown is not the same as rough or crepey skin, and neither is the same as a loss of structural support. Treating all three with “filler” or all three with a wrinkle relaxer can produce an unsatisfying or overdone result.

The consultation identifies which tissue and process are creating the concern. That distinction guides whether a neuromodulator, Skinvive, dermal filler, microneedling, skin care, or no procedure is most sensible.

  • Neuromodulator: changes selected muscle activity
  • Skinvive: targets smoothness within the skin
  • Dermal filler: adds support, shape, or volume
  • Microneedling: prompts gradual repair and collagen remodeling
02

The facial foundation

Aging changes the support beneath the skin

The framework of the face is not fixed. With age, region-specific remodeling of the orbit, midface, and jaw can reduce projection. Fat compartments, ligaments, muscle, and skin change too. Together, these layers can contribute to flattening, deeper folds, and downward movement of the overlying tissue.

Selected dermal filler can recreate some projection and soft-tissue support in appropriate areas, helping rebalance the contour above it. Filler remains a soft-tissue implant—not bone replacement—and it cannot correct every cause of facial laxity or stop the aging process.

  • Restore selected midface, chin, or jawline volume
  • Rebalance contours affected by structural change
  • Use the smallest amount that serves the plan
  • Consider skin treatment or surgical consultation when filler is not the right tool

The goal is not to fill every hollow. It is to identify where lost support meaningfully contributes—and where adding volume would not help.

03

Neuromodulators

Soften expression-driven lines without adding volume

Prescription neuromodulators temporarily reduce the nerve signal to selected muscles. Careful placement and dosing can soften movement while preserving the expressions that make your face look like your own.

Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Daxxify, and related products are not interchangeable unit for unit. Approved uses, onset, duration, and formulation differ, so product availability and selection are confirmed during consultation.

04

Skinvive

Improve skin smoothness with intradermal hyaluronic acid

Skinvive by Juvéderm is a hyaluronic-acid injectable gel placed in tiny amounts within the skin. Its goal is improved skin smoothness rather than the lift or projection associated with a contouring filler.

The established FDA-approved use includes cheek skin smoothness in adults over 21. Current product labeling also includes selected neck-line treatment. The exact area, technique, and whether Skinvive is appropriate for you are reviewed before treatment.

05

Dermal fillers

Support facial shape and proportion with restraint

Dermal fillers are prescription implants placed beneath the skin to support an approved area or concern. Different gels are engineered for different locations, movement, and levels of structural support.

Product, amount, and placement are chosen around anatomy and proportion. Because filler carries rare but serious vascular risks, safety planning and the ability to recognize complications are as important as the aesthetic plan.

06

Combination planning

A staged plan makes each decision easier to judge

More than one injectable can be appropriate, but combining products is not a goal by itself. Staging treatment can reduce swelling, make results easier to evaluate, and show whether the first change already accomplishes enough.

Timing also matters around travel, dental work, illness, vaccination, skin inflammation, pregnancy plans, and important events. Dr. Chang will explain what can reasonably be done together and what is safer to separate.

What to expect

A plan, not a preset.

  1. 01

    Assess

Identify whether movement, skin quality, volume, or a combination is creating the concern you want to address.

  2. 02

    Choose

Review the specific product, treatment area, expected change, cost, alternatives, and medical risks before deciding.

  3. 03

    Follow through

Use aftercare and follow-up to distinguish normal settling from a concern that needs prompt evaluation.

Frequently asked questions

Useful answers before you begin.

These answers are general information. Your consultation is where recommendations become specific to your health and goals.

What treatments are included under injectables?

At Dr. C Wellness Studio, the injectable category includes neuromodulators, Skinvive, and dermal fillers. Each works in a different tissue and is selected for a different kind of concern.

How do I know which injectable I need?

Start with what you notice rather than a product name. Dr. Chang assesses facial movement, skin quality, volume, proportion, treatment history, and goals, then explains which option—if any—matches the concern.

Is Skinvive the same as dermal filler?

Skinvive is a hyaluronic-acid injectable gel and is regulated as a dermal filler, but it is placed intradermally with the goal of improving skin smoothness. Traditional contouring fillers are generally placed to add support, shape, or volume.

Can filler replace age-related facial bone loss?

No. Filler does not regrow or replace bone. In selected areas, an appropriate filler can recreate some projection or soft-tissue support affected by age-related skeletal and volume change. The safest amount and location depend on your anatomy, the specific product, and whether lost support is truly driving the concern.

Can I receive a neuromodulator and filler at the same visit?

Sometimes, but there is no default combination. The decision depends on the areas, products, medical history, swelling, and whether staging the treatments would make the outcome easier to evaluate.

Can Skinvive be combined with a neuromodulator?

They address different concerns and may be used in a coordinated plan. Timing is individualized so expected swelling, aftercare, and the effect of each treatment remain clear.

Will injectables make me look overdone?

The plan prioritizes restraint, proportion, and a clear purpose for every placement. Starting conservatively and reassessing before adding more can help preserve a natural result.

Will I be treated the day of my consultation?

Possibly, but not automatically. Treatment may be postponed if you need time to consider the plan, a product is not available, your history needs review, or recent illness, inflammation, dental work, travel, or another factor changes timing.

How much do injectables cost?

Cost depends on the selected product, treatment area, amount, and plan. Because neuromodulator units, Skinvive syringes, and filler products are not equivalent, a meaningful estimate follows the assessment.

How long do injectable results last?

Duration varies substantially by product, dose, area, and person. Neuromodulators are temporary, Skinvive cheek-smoothness improvement lasted about six months for many clinical-study participants, and filler longevity depends on the specific implant and location.

What are the common side effects?

Redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, pain, firmness, itching, and temporary asymmetry can occur. The pattern and duration differ by product and placement.

What risks are more serious?

Neuromodulators can rarely cause unintended weakness or spread of toxin effect. Skinvive and dermal fillers carry a rare risk of injection into a blood vessel, which can injure skin and, in severe cases, affect vision or cause stroke. Product-specific warning signs are reviewed before treatment.

Who may need to postpone treatment?

Pregnancy or breastfeeding, active infection or inflammation, certain allergies, neuromuscular or bleeding conditions, medications, recent procedures, or other health factors may change the plan. Each product has its own contraindications and precautions.

Can injectable treatment be reversed?

Many hyaluronic-acid gels can sometimes be reduced with hyaluronidase, but not every injectable is dissolvable and reversal cannot guarantee an exact return to baseline. Neuromodulator effects wear off with time rather than being dissolved.
