Skin-quality consultation

Skin texture, smoothness, or collagen changes

Skin can feel rougher, look less even, or hold makeup differently over time. Enlarged-looking pores, acne scars, fine lines, and loss of smoothness do not all respond to the same treatment.

Private physician-led care serving Bellevue, Clyde Hill, Medina, Hunts Point, Seattle, and nearby communities. Select physician travel appointments may be available in Oregon and California by advance arrangement.

What may be happening

Why texture and smoothness change.

Skin quality changes with sun exposure, age, inflammation, acne, hormones, health conditions, and prior procedures. Active rash, infection, uncontrolled acne, pigment risk, or a tendency to scar can change whether a procedure is appropriate.

Dr. Chang distinguishes concerns suited to gradual collagen remodeling from those better addressed with intradermal hyaluronic acid, daily skin care, dermatologic evaluation, or another modality not offered at the studio.

01

Define the target

Name the skin change you want to improve

Texture, smoothness, pigment, redness, laxity, acne scars, and dryness are different concerns. A procedure can improve one dimension while leaving another unchanged.

The consultation reviews what you see and feel, current skin care, recent procedures, medications, tendency to pigment or scar, and any active condition that should be treated first.

02

Collagen remodeling

Microneedling creates a controlled repair response

A sterile microneedling device creates controlled microchannels in the skin. The repair process can support gradual improvement in selected texture concerns, but the result develops over time rather than immediately.

Depth, number of passes, treatment area, interval, and aftercare should be individualized. More aggressive treatment is not automatically more effective and can increase recovery and complication risk.

  • Gradual rather than instant change
  • Visible redness and sensitivity first
  • Sun protection and aftercare matter
  • A series may be considered after response is assessed
03

Intradermal smoothness

Skinvive and microneedling work in different ways

Skinvive is a hyaluronic-acid injectable gel placed within the skin to improve smoothness in approved treatment areas. It is not used with the contour-building goal of a traditional filler.

Because it is an injectable gel, Skinvive carries filler-related contraindications and rare but serious vascular risks. The choice between it and microneedling depends on the concern, treatment area, health history, recovery preference, and risk discussion.

04

Candidacy & recovery

Skin condition and timing can matter as much as the device

Active infection, inflammation, certain acne patterns, recent tanning or sunburn, pigment history, scarring tendency, immune conditions, medications, and recent procedures may require postponement or a different plan.

Travel, photographs, and major events should be discussed before scheduling. Redness, sensitivity, peeling, swelling, bumps, or bruising can be visible during early recovery depending on the treatment.

Before treatment, you should know what is likely to improve, what will not, and what your skin may look like during recovery.

How the conversation works

What the consultation covers.

  1. 01

    Identify

Clarify whether texture, smoothness, pigment, redness, scarring, or another change is the actual target.

  2. 02

    Match

Review whether microneedling, Skinvive, skin care, dermatology, or no procedure best fits the concern.

  3. 03

    Plan

Set realistic expectations for recovery, gradual change, aftercare, and when to reassess.

Frequently asked questions

Questions that often come up.

These answers are general information. Your consultation is where recommendations become specific to your health, location, and goals.

Is microneedling the same as Skinvive?

No. Microneedling creates a controlled injury intended to prompt gradual repair and collagen remodeling. Skinvive is a hyaluronic-acid injectable gel placed within the skin to improve smoothness in approved treatment areas.

Can microneedling treat every type of acne scar?

No. Scar type, depth, skin tone, active acne, pigment risk, and other factors affect whether microneedling is suitable. Some scars need a different modality or dermatology evaluation.

How much downtime should you expect?

Recovery depends on the treatment, depth, area, and your response. Redness and sensitivity are common after microneedling; swelling, bumps, or bruising can occur after Skinvive. Plan away from important events.

Can skin treatments be combined?

Sometimes, but combining procedures is not a goal by itself. Staging can make recovery safer and help show whether the first treatment already accomplishes enough.

What if your main concern is brown spots or redness?

Those concerns may respond better to a different treatment or dermatologic evaluation. Dr. Chang can discuss whether care at the studio fits or whether another clinician or modality is more appropriate.
